Afghanistan

I support our troops in Afghanistan. They are doing great work and making us proud every day as they help children go to school and help women enter the workforce and the political system.

The Canada I know doesn’t sit back when there is hard work to do in the world.

Stephane Dion, Hedy Fry and the Liberals are all over the map on this issue.

Here’s what Hedy Fry has said in the past:

"I think most of our constituents are saying, you know, we gave our word, let's do our best" – 24 Hours newspaper August 2006

“I do not think that we should remove our troops from Afghanistan immediately” – Hedy Fry website March 2007

The Liberal Party helped get the first extension to the mission passed when 24 Liberals joined the government in voting in May, 2006. Hedy Fry voted against. Then in March 2008, most Liberals (including Stephane Dion) voted with Prime Minister Harper to extend the mission until 2011. Hedy Fry? She didn’t vote at all.

I know where I stand – we began this tough work and we need to finish it for the sake of the Afghan people who are depending on Canada. Where does Hedy Fry stand? Does she agree with Stephane Dion that the mission should have been extended to 2011?
